ORION RESIDENTS PARTICPATE IN SPECIAL OLYMPICSComments Off on ORION RESIDENTS PARTICPATE IN SPECIAL OLYMPICS
On February 21st, residents of Orion’s Remuda House participated in the Special Olympics state basketball tournament at Higley High School in Gilbert. Their team, the Peoria Wildcats, won second place in the competition.
Orion residents have participated in track & field, soccer, softball, basketball and flag football through the Special Olympics in the last few years. Special Olympics is a tremendous opportunity for our residents to show what they can do. By pushing their limits and working as a team, they are able to achieve great things. The joy, confidence and sense of empowerment our residents gain from this experience is immeasurable, and helps them in so many other areas of their life off the playing field. They are also able to meet others who face challenges similar to their own, and create a community of friendship and support. Participants are able to take their experiences and achievements in Special Olympics and translate those into greater opportunities in their life.
